Commercial Avenue, a place that suited it's name well. Somewhere that a person could visit with comfort and peace to find a nice dress or ingredients for a meal that they were working on. If you needed it then this Avenue had it. But lately something else had become available to those who looked deeper and the government was none too keen on it's distribution in their pristine city of light.
The Gloom Gang was spreading their particular drug through the city, but they were clever. They were experts, led by a crafty former Operative from what the government intelligence could piece together. They left no tracks behind, like true shadows. Their drugs were harming many and even killing some.
Enforcers had been dispatched to put an end to this menace, but they either came back with no leads...or didn't come back at all. The government officials were put in a tight spot regarding this building threat and unless there was an Enforcer who was strong or crazy enough to hunt them down, there was little that could be done.
Kris absorbed all of this information as he sat in the backroom of a local inn, listening to a magistrate speak in hushed whispers to him. Mercenaries were rarely, if ever, recruited by Vantalux but desperation often yielded results. Especially when the said Merc was an Eme and a Vanta wielder.
"Fine. I'll deal with this, but I can't do it alone. So you better find me the craziest damn Enforcer you have to watch my back. Someone who won't back down when shit hits the fan...and someone who isn't afraid to get a little bit messy. You get me?"
The man nodded, features hidden behind a hood, and slowly stood up from the table. "We are in agreement then? You will be paid upon delivery of the leader's head."
Kris nodded in kind and stood up, downing the rest of his drink before shaking the man's hand. "I getcha. Tell your agent to meet up with me at Commercial Avenue's clothing stalls and give them the phrase: 'The sun is shining.' and I'll respond with 'But the ice is slippery.' Sound good?"
The two shook in mutual agreement and the official departed to leave Kris alone in the dark. He spent the rest of the night in preparation of the operation, picking up small daggers to hide in his boots, grabbing a bite to eat, and making sure to keep his weapon Carmilla sharpened. Rarely did he work with others, but this was a dangerous affair. Vantalux was known for having the top military strength in all of Ordus and Kris honestly couldn't lie to himself...he really wanted to see what an Enforcer was capable of.
And if they got in his way? Well, accidents tend to happen in such matters.
At the crack of dawn, he was already up and sober in the Avenue. He brushed a hand through his red hair as he straightened his black collared shirt, adjusting the light leather underneath. There was little to go on about the Gloom Gang aside from a certain weasel that one of the Enforcers identified. When his contact met up with him, Kris would find this brat and extort all he had...whether it be through words or his fists. God he hoped it was the latter option. This was getting exciting and Kris could feel his heart pumping with adrenaline as a wide smile splayed upon his face.
He only wondered what his partner would be like...what a thrilling prospect!

Vantalux Enforcer

There was no time wasting for the young Enforcer with the abnormally large weapon hanging from her back. She may be on duty to watch out for anything wrong doings among the people, but finding out about a large opreation of spreading a drug across the city? She was surprised this afternnoon When she got an eye on someone dealing out illegal packages off crystal, this kind of drug was bad and she quickly took a hold of the culprit with more than intention to squeeze out any information out from his pair of lips. Yngrid might've not been the most hardassed Enforcer, nor did she have a threatening body language, but she knew a few tactics to get what she wants, and that involved making the culprit thinking she was about to kill him on the spot. It was easy, and honestly a bit wimpy of the culprit to tear up when seeing the axe in a full swing. Little did she know that the man had vital pieces of evidence in his pockets when he fell backwards from pure fear.
This man had gotten guides, instructions even, for how to sell with great benefits. While the message was cryptic and not exactly straight forward, Yngrid could easily see this was very organized, it had layers of tasks, a few names even. Guess this culprit is one of the names and tasked to do the dirty end work. This only meant Yngrid needed to attack the source, because who knows how life worked for this man, he was no brute or a thug, maybe he was desperate. While she may show some sympathy she didn't hold back on sending him to the local station for temporary lock up, for the crime of possessing drugs. But the information she had obtained? She kept that stuff close to her for now, she didn't wanna make others Enforcers riled up, or make the public be aware of this while it's active, because who knows how many other desperate people are trying to find easy gains to their pockets.
It may be against what she was taught, and to rely on others when accomplishing difficult tasks, but Yngrid knew she was strong, and well equipped! She couldn't hesitate with things like these. With a good reminder of her values as an Enforcer she was on her way through the giant city, all the way to the both famous and infamous Commercial Avenue. A lot of things was happening in this busy spot, everyone just wanted to sell their stuff and make some bank, but no one was thinking for others. She felt uncomfortable how greed has made many goodhearted citizens so vulgar with their selling methods, and this drug operation mentioned in the letter was no different matter, it had to end tonight.
Commercial Avenue truly was a place she did not desire to stay in for too long, it reeked with dishonesty and pure greed, but she kept traversing deeper into the busy streets to initial meeting spot that was given out, all according to the guide paper from the victim. She reached a clothing stall, one might think no shady business would occur at, but Yngrid believed that was intentional, like how many times have shady businesses been done at run down storage house and grim places? It's too obvious, she was very certain this was the spot.
The people moved about their business along the busy street as the young man casually whistled a tune off key to himself. The sun was low in the sky as he squinted up through his thick red hair with a bright smile on his face. Alot of folk had a negative opinion of this avenue because of the crime and greed, but Kris found himself enjoying the scenery. The stalls were set up in an even line down the row with different goods on display for customers to peruse. Some were polite enough to even nod as they passed him by, to which he would give a courteous nod back.
Kids giggled along with their parents, holding their hands tightly as they trotted along with sweets in hand to munch on and the general bustle of commerce filled the air. It was truly a happy place to be a part of...which was why it was all the more important that this gang be dealt with. While Kris held little love for the government or the way the poor were treated in Vantalux, he hated the idea of these ignorant and happy people slowly succumbing to the disease of gangs and drugs.
In his musings, Kris saw a young lady pass him by with a clear objective in mind. Making a straight beeline to a clothing stall, a stall that he was scoping from the info he had already received, he couldn't help but stare. Her posture was off from the general populace around them, which made her stick out like a sore thumb, but that wasn't what made him raise a curious brow at her. It was the giant freaking axe weapon thing that hung from her back...holy hell. There was no doubt that this was the Enforcer he was looking for to deal with the target.
"Shit..." He moaned.
He kicked off of the wall he was leaning on, tucked his hands in his pockets, and sauntered down the lane toward the clothing stand. There was no way this was going to be a stealth mission with this beat cop...why did he even agree to this? The Mercenary took a couple steps around the girl and gave a polite smile to her.
"Hello there! The sun is shining, but...ah hell forget it."
Kris leaned toward the heavily armed girl to whisper near her. Hopefully she wouldn't get the wrong idea...he had been known to cause a scene because of his delinquent appearance.
"I take it your the Enforcer. We're looking for a small weasely guy named Ricky the Rat. Likes to buy clothes for his mom here...so how about you get a little more discreet there, super cop? Otherwise he might book it."
Yngrid crossed her arms and put on her determined toughy face, she was here now to do some hard Enforcer business and bring down the scum selling this dangerous drug! However, she kinda just stood in the middle of the store, even making the cashier get a bit wary, but in truth, Yngrid hadn't planned anything up to this point, so she kinda just stood helpless, where could she even begin? ''Well... this is a bit awkward, is my axe standing out? I almost knocked down a few clothe hangers on my way in, gah! I should ask directly, the cashier surely knows whats happening in the background of these shops!''
Yngrid cleared her throat and set her focus on the cashier, but before she could approach them an unfamiliar individual approached her rather hastily, did she know him? He had that kind of look of a prince, but why would he approach her? Maybe he needed help! She wanted to greet back to his kind words, but it was quickly unfolded. He had other intentions, and she got quickly uncomfortable with just how close he got. She widened her eyes in confusement rather fear, what was he talking about?
''E-enforcer? Yes I am Enforcer, but..'' She suddenly got the fear inducing idea that this guy might be someone she should know, or rather someone who's trying to do their work. Could he be a secret invesigator? Did she just stumble upon a case that she did not get approval for? Oh god, she felt so nervous now, what if she was messing things up! She hated that feeling more than anything! She quickly straightened her attitude and felt the pressure, this guy was from the authority for sure! ''N-noted! I'll take the hidden cover, just call me out whenever you need ... uh, whenever you need immediate assistance, investigator!''
She felt quite embarrassed from this, but to give a better first impression she quickly duck down and hid between two rows of clothes, keeping herself out of sight. They didn't even exchange names, but it was clear to her that this man wanted to do his job his way, and he knew where to get more information? It's all a win for Yngrid! Although how is one gonna know a 'Ricky the Rat' comes into the store? What, is he like an actual rat? She tried to peek through the clothes and watched the top secret investigator, and there he came, at least she think it was him, Ricky. A short man, looking a bit timid, but walked in rather quickly with his small feet and up to the cashier. That was when she saw... his tail? This guy was given rat as a nickname for a good reason it seems, a lively rat tail was hanging from his lowerback! ''Bingo! That must be him! Well, I at least think so, I gotta wait on my partner to say the word, he surely knows Ricky's appearance!''
Though he typically despised Enforcers with how uptight they behaved or how corrupt they could turn, Kris was taken aback by this one. Even though she was knocking down some clothes and acting like a klutz, she was very receptive to her surroundings. It was fortunate that Kris intervened in her far more direct approach, pulling her to the side instead of immediately questioning the vendor since that would have blown their operation right then and there!
He moved the conversation away from the shopkeeper, though it was a bit difficult with the cramped nature of the stall. Clothes were lined neatly in rows all across the shop and it made for easy cover to have a private plan of attack.
The Enforcer confirmed her identity as he partner in this situation and Kris was doubly shocked at how cooperative she was being. Mercenaries were not known for their kind demeanors and the law enforcement was always butting heads with their cavalier style of getting things done. Enforcers were tough and dangerous when it came to upholding the law, but that also made them very predictable. In fact, Kris had been counting on using some dunce with no brains in their skull to do most of the heavy lifting. But not with this girl, though. She was spunky and full of energy! She immediately followed his orders and ducked away into the clothes racks with the clear intention that he was in command. Which made him stand in place looking like an idiot for a couple moments.
"Well that's a new one..."
Perhaps she was a rookie and this was a new assignment for her? If that were the case, then the government were a bunch of assholes to put such a high risk task onto a beat cop. Then again...that axe was no joke. It's sheer size alone was impressive! Was it her vanta weapon? A grin spread across his face at the destructive capabilities it could cause, but that could wait for later. His confusion shook away as Ricky entered the shop, however, and Kris made himself look busy as he pretended to browse the wares.
It was who they were looking for. The distinguishing scar on his neck along with the proper Afflicted features were all a dead giveaway. Kris edged toward the Enforcer and gave her a nod, pointing a thumb at the rat as a 'go ahead' to engage. Just as he offered the gesture, Kris would stealth his way to the singular entrance to the vendor to block off Ricky's escape and deliver a pincer strike in time with his partner. Afterwards...well, he would see how brutal or squeamish the Enforcer could be with beating information out of a perp.

''One day I will be the one moving the train!''

There was no mistake, the rat man, the man from the sewers, the one nicknamed The Rat, literally having a rat mutation all pointed to this sucker. It just must be a great unfortunate life he must go through to be labelled as such and nothing else, she couldn't even imagine the stress he must be getting from that fact alone. But that also begs the question, how could someone like him get such an infamy for his Vel? He must've used his benefits to do lawless acts upon these streets! Yngrid would want to question him and his past, but this was no time for digging up sympathy, she needed that intel along with her partner. That was when he did a very much clear thumbs up, it hasn't been established, but she assumes she is the one doing the heavy work, with her heavy attitude!
Yngrid knew she needed to put up a tough entrance, so she decided she'd burst through the line of clothings and blew her alert whistle as hard she could before pointing at Ricky, with clothes flying down from her sudden shove, a sweater falling on her head and covering one of her eyes. ''Halt! Ricky the Rat! You are under suspicion of drug activities, and I hereby state for you to stand down quietly!'' It was a surprise for sure, for both the cashier and Ricky, and before Ricky could even think about running, he saw a clear obstacle at the exit of the shop. He stood nervous and rubbed his hands together, his tail coiling around his left leg as a sign of fear. He didn't manage to muster out words, he was speechless and felt desperate!
''I'm warning you again, stand down! You are cornered and you got nothing left to go!'' He gulps a big one and clenches his fists. ''I-I'm not going with you pigs! N-not in a million years!'' He expressed angrily as he went as bold to jump over the counter and into the backroom! Yngrid widened her eyes and jumped right after! ''He must know an alternative exit in the back building! I'll chase him down!'' She yelled back to Kris before she went into the dark backroom and whatever hidden behind the corner. The cashier still freaked out and hiding underneath the counter.
Yngrid had minor issues to get around in this tight building with her large weapon on her back, but she was just a few seconds behind Ricky, he attermpted to toss boxes over, close doors after him and even push other people in the building infront of her. So she had to be careful to not break any building property, no broken doors, and no rough handling with citizens! It was quite the hassle of an annoyance! But just as they reached to the other end, a floor up, Ricky saw an open window and jumped through, landing on a metal grid with stairs going down. ''It was a pleasure doing cat n mouse with ya lassie, but I got places to be! Haha!''
He felt victorious as he landed to the ground, while Yngrid had troubles to get through the darn window. ''H-hey! Stop this instance!'' She blew her whistle again at him, but to no awail, he was sprinting to the corner of the building where the busy street was located, if he got into the crowdy street it was totally over!
